Maggie Holmes | Rainbow Cards

Hey there! Today’s project features lots of rainbows. I actually made these cards at the beginning of this year before anyone could have guessed what significance and importance the image of the rainbow would gain in the coming months.

I just wanted to create some bright and cheerful cards that I could send out to friends just because. And I think now more than ever it’s important to let the people in your life know that you are thinking of them!

Here’s what you need to make these rainbow cards:

• patterned papers in rainbow colors (I only used scraps for this!)
• white cardstock or white cardbases
• scissors or a manual*/electronic die-cutting machine
• adhesive
• optional: envelope punch board to make your own envelopes

As you can see, you really don’t need a whole lot! I started by selecting seven patterned papers in rainbow colors and then used this die set (my favorite right now!) and my manual die cutting machine to cut out the rainbows.

If you don’t have a rainbow die, you could use your electronic die cutting machine or even just sketch out the rainbows by hand and use your scissors to cut them out! Those wonky rainbows are super trendy right now – so no need for perfection! 🙂

I cut a full rainbow from each patterned paper and then put together five colorful rainbows. You could of course make a lot more in one go!

I backed each ray with foam adhesive to add some dimension and then adhered the rainbows to a 5″x5″ white side-folding card base. For a little touch of something extra, I added a gold glitter heart from the Willow Lane Thickers to each card.

Below the rainbow you could stamp a sentiment, or use alphabet stickers to spell out a greeting or name. I used one of the journal runners from the Sunny Days collection to add some text to each card.

Next I used my envelope punch board and the left over pieces of patterned paper to make my own color-coordinated envelopes for these cards.

I think this project would make for a great kid’s craft. You could use these as invitations to a birthday party or as thank you cards, or whatever comes to mind! By leaving out certain colors you can also adapt the color scheme to your needs. So many possibilities!
