Sending Love from Paradise Layout with Spellbinders [+ Process Video]

Hey there friends 🙂 I know it’s been a while, but I’ve got a lot of things cooking and I’ve been working “behind the curtains“ on a few really fun things and can’t wait to tell you more about them!

For today I have a fun collaboration for you. Spellbinders was so kind to send me two of their die sets to play with (this one and this one), as well as three of their Platinum Packs that contain lots of fun specialty papers, fabrics and other materials (like cork, balsa wood, etc.).

The Succulent and Mom Flower dies couldn’t have been more perfect for me. As you might know, I call myself the crazy plant lady – and not without reason. The plant collection in our home is always growing and I like shopping for plants even more than shopping for clothes 😉 Anyway, I knew I needed to use this die set right away and I also had the perfect photos for it, since we had just come back from our most recent Costa Brava trip where I took a bazillion flower and plant photos.

I was really inspired by the cork and the balsa wood in the Platinum Pack 5 and decided to create some kind of a cork pinboard on my layout to which I could “pin“ my photo that I added on top of a postcard die cut piece. Although it’s actually really easy to make a pinboard like this, I did make it really difficult for myself… but you can watch for yourself 😉

For the papers on this layout I decided to use only paper scraps from my stash, so for the succulent I picked a few scraps in different shades of green and arranged them from the lightest to the darkest going from the smallest to the largest piece. I also used a scrap to add it behind my white cardstock base, so I could tear it at the top and at the bottom and have this pretty mustard yellow and white pattern peek out from beneath.

By the way, I absolutely LOVE using up my paper scraps. So if you need some more inspiration, you can find lots of ideas and projects in my class “Use Your Scraps” over at Big Picture Classes 🙂

As for the embellishments, I mainly mixed stickers, ephemera and flair from the Crate Paper “Here & There” and “Wild Heart” collections – I love the juicy tropical green monstera leaves, the black and white elements and the foiled accents. The Here & There collection includes some rose gold foiled elements and the Wild Heart has gold holographic foiling, but I think they look really good mixed together, too!

Because I used a brad to secure the postcard with my photo on my pinboard (btw, what a blast from the past, huh? there really aren’t a lot of pretty brads available anymore), you can slide the whole element to reveal the hidden journaling underneath. You know I’m a fan of hidden journaling, and being able to find a way like this to hide it, makes me pretty happy 😀

I decided to stick to only a handful colours to really make the pinboard pop, with all of those lush green leaves peeking out from behind it. And I am really happy with how it turned out! I would have never thought of creating a fake pinboard on one of my layouts, hadn’t Spellbinders sent me these really cool Platinum Packs with the cork and the balsa wood (and lots of other fun materials). I love when this happens and I get completely inspired by the products!
